BlackSheep Turns Six and Celebrates with a Big Party

By Irina Guzmán

Next Saturday, February 18th, the BlackSheep, the only Irish pub in the middle of the Guanacaste jungle, will celebrate birthday number six. The party will start at 5 p.m. and all of the guests will be able to enjoy the exclusive music of successful trombonist Mark McGrain visiting us from New Orleans, USA.

Admission is free and there will be six different types of beer in barrels. Costa Rican crafted beers from Costa Rica Brewing Company will be sold: Libertas (golden), Segua (dark) and as a surprise for many, the new wheat beer with cas fruit will be presented. This beer is also golden but its flavor is very refreshing and fruity for the palate.

BlackSheep continues pleasing those who love fermented barley, a.k.a. “beer,” and will also be serving the beer I.P.A (Indian Pale Ale), with a strong, bitter taste dominated by hops, with 6 to 7% alcohol.

In addition, guests can enjoy the Witches Rock Pale Ale, a clear colored beer, and Witches Rock Nut brown ale, a darker beer with the flavor of chocolate and nuts. These beers are brought by the Costa Rican brewery Volcán Brewing Co. and come from Tilaran.

Food is being provided by Fritz BBQ. Helena and Joe, the owners of the Blacksheep, promise that “as far as what people should expect, is hopefully have a good time and to enjoy one of our ales.”

So don’t miss celebrating the sixth anniversary of the BlackSheep, enjoying some of the best Costa Rican beers.

Directions for how to get there:
To get to the BlackSheep, cross the “rasta” bridge of Santa Marta and continue along the road to Ostional. After driving about 4 kilometers, you’ll arrive at a fork, where you should go to the right, in the opposite direction from Ostional. Follow the road until you come to a white concrete gate.
