Samara’s First Yoga Studio: A Labor of Love
By Ashley Steyaert & Jennifer Madigan

March 19th marked the Grand Opening of Casa Cati Yoga Studio and Community Center in Samara Beach. Studio founder and director Cati McDonald first came to Samara to attend the Costa Rica School of Massage Therapy in August 2008, and later returned in November 2009 and completed a course at the Nosara Yoga Institute. Cati worked with Carrillo resident locally known as “Coco”, Brian Sandoval, to collaborate on the studio design which provides an open-air natural setting reflecting the rich resources and beauty of the local environment.

What sets Casa Cati apart from most studios is that it operates on donations and other voluntary contributions. In exchange for classes, students give what they can; whether it be with monetary contributions, time and labor invested at the studio, or simply a good deed to someone in need.

Cati feels “yoga has become very trendy and popular and is spreading – which is great – but usually it spreads to people who have money”, and she has founded her studio with the goal of “taking the emphasis off of money” and functioning on a “what goes around, comes around” business philosophy. Cati gives classes in both English and Spanish and hopes that the studio provides a welcoming space for first timers and seasoned yogis alike.

Casa Cati is available as a common space for the community of Samara and Cati encourages community members to collaborate and organize other events and activities for the public to take part in at this beautiful, inviting and accommodating venue. In addition to the daily morning and candlelight yoga classes, Casa Cati also hosts Sámara’s first English speaking Alcoholics Anonymous meetings on Monday evenings. (see our calendar of events)

Yoga classes are offered Monday through Saturday.
For more information, please contact Cati at: [email protected].

New Nosara Chamber of Tourism to Balance Needs of Community and Environment

Tourism can be defined as a composite of activities, services, and industries that deliver a travel experience to individuals and groups visiting an area outside of their normal living environment. There is not one business in Nosara that is not directly or indirectly influenced by Tourism, which is the reason that on March, 11 2010 the first Nosara Tourism Chamber was formed at L’Aqua Viva Resort.
