Nicoya's Airfield
Lack of illumination Puts Night Flights in Danger

Even though Civil Aviation completed 900 million colones ($1.8 million) worth of improvements to the airfield in Nicoya. The airport renovation project, as described before it was begun included construction of the runway, asphalt, demarcaion and illumination. But the project as completed does not, in fact, include illumination for the runway. Because of this, evening flights are a danger, especially for small planes that transfer patients from Nicoya to San Jose.

This danger is plainly shown on a video filmed April 7. The video was uploaded to the Facebook social network by "Vistazos de mi tierra." The video shows a small civil aviation plane that landed to pick up a 3-year-old boy for transfer to the children's hospital in San Jose. To take off, the plane had to be aided by the lights of police patrol cars. The video can be seen on the Facebook wall of La Voz de Nosara Guanacaste.

Indispensable
For the Hospital La Anexion (Annexation), it is of foremost importance that this runway be in the best of conditions. It is the hospital's means of quick access for transferring patients in serious condition to hospitals in the central plateau.

Another of the advantages of having the airfield in peak condition is for any major emergency.

"For the National Emergencies Commission it is indispensable to have this runway in condition to face whatever situation merits the entry of aircraft. Because of its importance for emergencies, we are contacting Civil Aviation so they will illuminate the runway," said Mario William Acosta, local coordinator of the Emergencies Commission.

In the end, he learned that she loved him but she wanted him as he was.

The road to development is often full of political potholes so deep that some communities move backwards rather than forwards. Nosara has a new pothole that will set us back considerably.

Samara Police Move Into Renovated

On Saturday, April 16, the police rejoiced as they moved back into the renovated Samara police station, more than 2 months after the facility was closed by the Ministry of Health. On January 14th, the Ministry of Health issued an order to the Samara Public Force to move out of the facility, and renovations began on Thursday, February 10.

At the same time that the Samara police were rejoicing and moving back into their police station, the Nosara police suddenly found themselves with their hands tied when the Ministry of Health shut their station down on Thursday, April 14 and restricted them from receiving anyone in the building. This left the police without any way to attend to the public or anywhere to detain prisoners.
