Soccer in the Dark
A valuable and creative way of supporting kids

Haylen Noguera

Event Coordinator "Palancho" presenting the winning trophy to Jairo Mora, from Team Mis Amores

The Foco Soccer Tournament, which took place in March, showed us a different and fun way to practice indoor soccer. The tournament was organized through the joint efforts of the Nosara Surfing Foundation and Alexander Córdoba Pavicini, who is better known as “Palancho”. Several of the student’s parents from the kindergarten level of the Serapio Lopez Elementary School, also contributed since the proceeds will be used in the restroom construction for the kindergarten students.

In order to carry out this task, Surfing Nosara and Alexander Córdoba requested the sponsorship of several businesses and institutions of the area, who kindly gave their support, both economic as well as human, since each of them provided their own team. The main requirement for participating was that each player carried his own flashlight since floodlights at the different artificial grass courts (Arenales and Garza) were turned off, thereby making the games more fun since players had to be “on top of their game” in order to light their own moves with the ball.

Among the tournament’s contestants were: Villa Mango, Harbor Reef, Frog Pad, Solo Bueno, Safari Surf School, the “Intocables”, “Popofish”, the Nosara Surf Academy, Mis Amores, Coconut Harry’s, Surfing Nosara and many more. The winning team was the Mis Amores team, who also took the Tournament’s Top Goal Scorer Prize, for Jairo Mora, who scored a total of fourteen goals.
