With Faroles, music bands and cheerleders…..everybody celebrated the Independence of Costa Rica

Jenifer Garcia Soto represented the sixth grade of Samara School with the lantern she made with her mom’s help.
 


Food was sold before the parade of lanterns (faroles) on Tuesday the 14th at Samara School. Alejandro Castillo Araya watches over his daughter, Miranda, while she enjoys the food.

On Tuesday September 14th, a group of ciclist from Nosara whent to Filadelfia city in the Sta. Cruz County, to bring the Independence torch.

Students, teachers and families fill the streets with beautiful and colorful paper lanterns (faroles) in a parade to commemorate the Grito de Independencia (Shout of Independence)

On Wednesday 15, the Nosara Elementary school with the participation of the Sta. Marta Elementary School, Sta. Teresita Elementary School, night school and the Nosara Highschool, are part of one of the biggest event of the year: the Independence parade. Over 1000 people assisted, some participated in the parade as part of the music band, cheerleder or manifesting against violence, but all parents showed how proud they are of their kids and of being costa rican.

I followed the police motorcycles on my quad and we came across two drunk, half-naked men yelling at each other and trying to fight in the rain.
