As of Wednesday, September 12, the environmental management department of the Municipality of Nicoya is beginning selective collection service for recyclables in Samara. A municipal van will pick up items each Wednesday.
Collection sites outside of the center of Samara in Cangrejal are Hotel Pacific Lodge, the intersection toward Buena Vista, Super Iguana Verde/Pablito’s Bar, and the entrance to the beach; in Samara at Intercultura and in the lot diagonal from Intercultura; in El Torito, the high school, Hotel Villas Playa Samara, the ICE tower/Hotel Hemingway and the entrance to Condominios Villas.
The community is encouraged to support the effort by separating recyclable items and placing them in clear plastic bags. Materials should be clean and dry, without oil, grease or food. Boxes, bottles and cans should be crushed or flattened to save space. Toilet paper and disposable diapers are not accepted.
Recyclable materials include: cardboard (corrugated, cereal boxes, poster board, packing boxes, shoe boxes, etc), paper (white, printer, magazine, newspaper, receipts, notebooks, books phone guides, etc), plastic (PET 1 PETE, TPE, HDPE 2, PEAD, plastic bags, packaging and wrapping), glass (not window glass, mirrors or light bulbs), aluminum or metal cans or containers (not kitchen utensils, motor parts, tools, etc.) and Tetra-Brik brand containers.
