Buena Vista Beach has a new park

The project started out as an idle conversation between friends at Buena Vista beach—how nice it would be to have a place for people to sit and enjoy the view. The idea developed into a trend.

On October 6th, a few of the women of Esterones went to the beach and began cleaning and collecting driftwood and planks to make benches and tables. The next day they returned to nail together their creations.

“I’m really glad it’s something everyone can participate in. It has helped develop personal feeling for the beach. They feel like they own it; they’re caretakers of it,” said Davina Pritchard, who helped organize the creation of the park. “Now people started making benches in Barrigona [Beach] and we’re adding more all the time.”
