Under a scorching sun on the afternoon of November 25th, Bonnie Lowe looks radiant at the Zen Cafe in Playa Guiones, as she arranges her artwork with great patience and dedication, eager to showcase it in front of an audience for the first time here.
Bonnie started her career as a fashion model back in 1958, years later she was modeling with the famous American modeling agency, Ford Models, between 1965 and 2006. It was there were her artistic side sparked. Traveling to various locations around the world, she had the chance to work alongside artistic photographers such Richard Avedon and Hiro, spending time with artists who belonged to the so-called "abstract realism" and "surrealism" movement. She then started painting portraits, followed by landscapes and inanimate objects.
In 2006 she and her husband, Norm Lowe, who've been married for 18 years, arrived to Nosara and were delighted by it, deciding to build their new home in the town of Garza. As a way of showing their affection, they started working to raising funds for Garza's elementary school, it was then that Bonnie came up with the idea of using her own artwork to help the school raise funds.
“I love all forms of art today, and I'd rather be doing this than anything else right now", Bonnie affirmed.
Currently, Bonnie finds her inspiration on the wildlife that grows around Garza and Nosara, but has a special attraction for cats. “A cat came to our house and adopted us, so I painted it", says Lowe. In this way her interest in painting all things she likes, such as inanimate objects and animals, is sparked. |
