The evening of Thursday, February 16, singer Krishna Das, popularly known as the rock star of chanting, will give a presentation beginning at 8 p.m. in the yoga studio of the Blue Spirit center in Garza.

On Wednesday, the 15th, one day before the presentation of Krishna Das, opening the hearts and warming up the vocal cords of Kirtan devotees, the “Ramesh Kirtan Project” will be celebrated in The Village complex at 6:30 p.m. in Guiones.

Cost of admission for Krishna Das is $30, which should be paid ahead of time at The Village, Orgánico Mini Súper or Blue Spirit, since admission is limited to avoid overcrowding so everyone can enjoy it.

Krishna Das will perform some of the songs from his latest disk “Heart as wide as the world,” and will also please his fans with several of his well-known titles.

Admission for Kirtan on Wednesday costs $20, which is a suggested donation that includes traditional food from India.

In this concert, several artists will be presented such as: Ramesh Das, Hana Himavati from the Czech Republic, Carlos Tapado, who in the year 2000 won a Grammy award as a percussionist, Rodolfo Emanuel, from the Costa Rican group Cardamomo, Gaura Narayan, Radha Kunja Dasi, Rasesa Gaura and Indira Dasi.

Kirtan is the devotional chanting that comes from Kirtana, a sanscrit word that means “to say, to repeat, to mention, to celebrate, to praise,” and which consists of the practice of listening to a mantra initiated by one of the musicians and repeating it. This practice is derived from the religions of India.

“Kirtan is a form of meditation by means of the vibration of the sounds from the mantras when they are being chanted. It is a form of prayer to the God that each one believes in, and it produces a union and elevation,” explained Shivanter Singh, one of the organizers of the event in The Village.
