Nosara’s first ever Taste of Nosara, offering community members samples of favorite items from local restaurants, will feature a range of dishes from the typical to the exotic this Sunday the 24th.
According to Agnes Pinheiro, event organizer and Nosara Security Association Treasurer, restaurants confirmed to participate in the Sunday event are: Kaya Sol, Gilded Iguana, Casa Romantica, Robin’s Café and Ice Cream, Casa Tucan, Café de Paris, Marlin Bill’s, Il Peperoni, La Casona, Pacifico Azul, Guardino Tropicale, Reef Restaurant, VIP Spaghetti and Il Basilico.
“I am impressed by everyone’s efforts and appreciate the creativity of solutions people are coming up with to improve security here,” said Robin Lance of Robin’s Café and Ice Cream, on why she was participating in the event. “I am in my business all the time so this is how I can support community efforts in my own way.” Other business owners echoed Lance’s sentiments as they prepared the dishes to feature at the event.
Here is what the top chefs will present:
Café de Paris’ chef Fabian Piguet said he will present the traditional Costa Rican dishes of arroz con pollo and ceviche. But he also will be bringing a third dish to sample that is a surprise. Piguet said he expects Costa Rican chefs will be the very best at making traditional Tico food like arroz con pollo, “but this is a good idea for the restaurants to participate in helping out the firefighters.”
Casa Tucan’s chef of ten years, Eduardo Lopez, also is bringing arroz con pollo to the event. The secret to a great dish, Lopez said, “is the chef.” Lopez added, “it is a very good idea so we will be there on Sunday with our arroz con pollo.”
Lance of Robin’s Café and Ice Cream, is providing a non-traditional, exotic dish for the Taste of Nosara. She calls it “Loveboats from India” and said they were popular at her seventh anniversary event. Lance explained that the unusual dish starts with coconut sponge, which is dehydrated coconut. She layers Indian hummus, which she makes with own tahini and spices, on top of the coconut sponge. The next layer is dehydrated carrots with spices, then she adds salted kale with olive oil. Lance said she finishes the “loveboat” off with yogurt and either mint or basil, depending on her mood.
“The whole idea is that you bite through and get layers of flavor. It is my recipe,” Lance said, “but it was inspired by my raw chef friend Chelah Carty.”
Reef Restaurant manager Mauricio Castro said he too is bringing a different dish.
Chef Yamil Matarrita will be preparing the Reef Burrito for Taste of Nosara. Ingredients in Matarrita’s burrito include: chicken, cheddar cheese, avocado, natilla, black refried beans, olives and a special tomato salsa.
Giardino Tropical chef, Maria Ester Rodriguez Castillo will prepare ceviche for the event.
According to the administrator of Pacifico Azul, Carlos Sibaja they will be presenting their infamous tartar de atún. He said, “it is like ceviche but made of tuna (and) is very easy to make “.
Gilded Iguana will serve a fresh and practical Thai lettuce wrap. The administrator of the venue, Joellen Hughef said, “it (the event) is a great idea. I would like to see it next year with a proper kitchen facility so that we can prepare on site.”
Marlin Bill’s, that will also host the event, will prepare their specialty: sliced roast beef with horse radish sauce along with a desert that will be surprise for those who attend the event. According to the owner, they have participated in similar events at different places before and he thinks the idea of this event is great. “It only gets bigger and better.”
Remo Britshgi from Casa Romantica, who is also a member of Nosara firefighters, confirmed that they will be serving baked shrimp wrapped in ham. He said, “It had to be boca size. It is tasty. And it is a nice little boca.” He said this event is very important since it will also support the firefighters.
Finally, Pelada’s pizza restaurant Il Peperoni is going to participate with a classic but yummy “arroz con leche”.
The event will run for only two hours, from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at Marlin Bill’s featuring 14 restaurants, so don’t miss any second of it. |
