Yoga Spa hosts musical experience

By Adam Dietrich

An audio-visual journey took place at the Costa Rica Yoga Spa at their outdoor studio perched on the side of a mountain overlooking Nosara, on April 4. The experience featured guitarists, Bill McPherson, Chris Scott and Edger Sequeira as well as visuals by Ray Moss.

The guitarists performed a few original songs, but also jazz, Latin, classic rock and blues. While an audience of about 40 watched and listened underneath and ever-changing array of visuals projected onto the ceiling. The projections are called trans-visualizations and they’re projected to help visualize the music for the audience.

According to McPherson, collaboration with Scott, a classic rock and blues guitarist and Sequeira, a jazz guitarist from Costa Rica, has been going on for a few months. The trio has rehearsed over phone and Skype, although they only left time for a 30 minute practice before Wednesday’s show.

“With high-level musicians all you need to do is get a feel or an understanding for the others,” says McPherson.  Adding that they didn’t really have a firm set list, but rather an idea of what songs they were going to play to set a, “foundation for improvisation.”

For McPherson the performance at the Yoga spa was the high point of a week of shows.

McPherson returned to California full-time a year and half ago and has enjoyed his time back in Nosara, although he has been busy. During his nine-day vacation here he is playing six shows at five venues “It’s been a really heartwarming reunion vibe since I’ve been back,” says McPherson about returning to the Nosara.

While he’s only back for a short while, McPherson is positive that he will be back. “My wife is from here and we have family so we’ll always going to be cycling through.

For those who missed McPherson’s performance at the yoga spa he will be performing Friday 6 at Kaya Sol and Saturday 7 at Marlin Bills before returning to California.

About 40 people were at the Yoga Spa for Wednesday’s performance. In
addition to the three guitarist images and video was projected onto the ceiling
to help bring the music to life.
