The “Bull Festival Fairs”
By Haylen Noguera

Sandra, Carrie and friend on horses.

As it is traditional in Nosara, every April the Rodeo Fairs take place, and this year was no exception. Said event took place from April 15th to 18th, inviting the town and surrounding areas to enjoy the highly anticipated event. Starting it off with the promising Estate Queen of Orlando Villarreal (Esperanza-Nosara) accompanied by “Sonido 3” during the four-day Holiday. With their beloved commentators Lico Carrillo and the Mr. Garagarza, who have thirty years rodeo experience, fourteen consecutive years of which they are have been present in the Nosara festivals. “It charms us to come here, we always feel the people’s respect and affection, and as long as God lends us life and health and the festival commission calls us, we will be here “ mentioned Lico.

Santo Ruiz, one of the organizers, next to Lico Carrillo, "man with the microphone".

There was a little bit of everything.
Starting off the bull riding with as many foreigners running with them in the ring as there were Costa Ricans, the traditional horse parade, bulls that didn’t play as expected, for example Malibu, the bull who did well but we know that could have done a lot better. The bull that did pretty well was Huracán, with thirty unbeaten runs since rider Jairo Carrillo lasted a scarce four seconds on the back of this nationally famous bull, owned by Mr. Nery Jiménez from the Santa Maria Estate in Esparanza, Santa Cruz.
Lady Maria Noguera Ruiz was honored as this year’s reigning adult monarch.

What was missing?
The big absence was the music anticipating each ride, by the band “Pachangueros Caballistas”, the fireworks that the children like so much, and the cannons. This is how another year’s edition of “The Bulls Festival” was carried out in town.
