CREAR Begins Reading Time in Samara's Library

By Arianna McKinney

CREAR has created a new program to draw more people to Samara's public library: Reading Time.

Reading Time for children ages 2 to 8 is being offered Monday through Thursday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. It is free and encourages young ones to develop a love for literature as volunteers from CREAR and Intercultura read stories, play games and sing songs with the children. Parents are also welcome to participate. The new program initiated on Monday, April 9th, according to Johannah Waite, co-coordinator of CREAR.

The library housed on the Intercultura campus is open to the public, generally from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thanks to donations, the library now offers a variety of reading material.

CREAR has also expanded their 1st to 3rd grade Samara program, which will now be offered Monday through Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. in the community hall. Previously it was only offered on Mondays and Tuesdays. In addition, free English classes are being provided for children on Saturday mornings in the community hall. First to third graders can attend from 10 to 11 a.m., and fourth to sixth graders from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The CREAR Association is a nonprofit program that develops community projects and educational programs for children in the Samara area. The program is supported entirely by fundraisers and donations. For more information, call 2656-0127 or visit www.asociacioncrear.org.

Low Season, Slow Season

Clean, precise, clear blue waves give rise to storm tossed seas. A handful of surfers take on the messy whitewater, fiercely duckdiving under the swell. When the moon is full, the tide tumbles up and generously pours over the edge of the beach onto the land. It’s clearly low season, better known as green season, here along the central Guanacaste coast.
