By Ashley Steyaert

The Ecological Blue Flag is awarded on a system ranging from One Star (the lowest rating) to Three Stars (the highest possible rating); Both the Del Mar Academy and Hotel Giardino Tropicale have been awarded the Blue Flag with all Three Stars, giving credit to their exemplary environmental awareness and conservation.

In the words of Del Mar Academy Principle Jessica Sheffield Zamora, “winning a blue flag makes the community and the school much better, we need to help other schools obtain the blue flag” as well.
Hotel Giardino Tropicale General Manager Muriam Schaerer comments, “We feel very proud for having won the Blue Flag. We feel like we have been compensated and recognized for all of the work we have been doing for so long”.NOSARA – During the month of May, two local establishments were awarded the prestigious Ecological Blue Flag Award of Costa Rica. On Monday May 10th the Del Mar Academy invited parents and community members to the official flag raising ceremony at their private school campus, and on Tuesday May 25th Hotel Giardino Tropicale celebrated the raising of their Blue Flag as well.

The Ecological Blue Flag Program is impelled by the AyA in coordination with other public institutions, municipalities and private enterprises, and started with the primary objective of stimulating and motivating the coastal communities to protect the beaches in Costa Rica in an integral way, effectively guaranteeing the tourists’ and inhabitants’ demands and expectations concerning high quality hygiene, security and potable water coverage of those people who visit and live here.

New Spanish School in Nosara offers courses for foreign residents

“I don’t speak Spanish” is a phrase that you might expect to hear in Nosara from a visiting Tourist, but it is more often used by many of Nosara’s long term residents who speak little or no Spanish. As the number of foreign residents moving to Nosara increases, so does the need for a spanish education program for residents. Aspiring to meet that need, The Nosara Spanish Institute (NSI) will be opening its doors on June 7th, located within the community on Playa Pelada. More >
