Samara Will Host Triathlon Festival

By Oliver Pérez

Sports lovers should mark two days in August on their calendar when Samara will be the scene for the athletic triathlon festival August 25 and 26.

This athletic activity will combine water, land and pedaling on Saturday, August 25th, when about 200 athletes are expected to participate in the categories of mountain biking triathlon (X-TRI), 2 km and 1 km open water swimming (OWCR), 21 km Samara trail marathon, 10 km trail run, 5 km recreational trail run and 1.5 km kids run (free).

For Sunday, August 26th, the day’s events include Tri Sprint (triathlon route), 1.5 km open water swim for teams (0.75 km + 0.75 km) and Samara Ride (recreational mountain biking of 35 km and 20 km).

This activity is meant to promote the community as an athletic and adventure tourism destination nationally and internationally. It also looks to encourage an interest in sports in the community by planning free athletic and recreational activities for family and youth participation.
Registration for one individual in one event is 20,000 colones (about $40), for an individual in two events is 28,000 colones (about $56), for relays in one event 40,000 colones ($80) and for relays in two events 60,000 colones ($120).

For more information about the event, you can call the telephones: 2294-8612 or 8376-4938.
