The rhythm of Guanacaste will take over next Wednesday September 28 at the Melico Theatre in honor of Fidel Gamboa.
The Symphony Orchestra 25 de Julio Sinem Nicoya will present a music show of Guanacaste province. It is the first time a classical music group will perform at the San Jose theatre. The performance will begin at 7 pm.
“We are proud that our youth group reached this majestic setting. It tells us we are doing the job well,” said Jorge Guevara, Director of the Orchestra. The concert will start on time because before the Nicoya Orchestra, the theater will present the Orchestra of San Ramon and Puntarenas.
Guevara said that he wants to pay tribute to singer Fidel Gamboa who passed away last August due to a heart attack. They will be playing the song Abril, perfomed by Malpais, the music group that Gamboa was the leader of. They will also be presenting the singer’s family with a gift. |

Three buses will be available for members and those who wish to attend the concert. The cost is ten thousand colones which includes transportation and the cost of admission. Tickets are available at the music school of Nicoya and the same day at the Salazar theatre box office.
Festival of Light
As part of preparations for the Festival of light in San Jose, the 120 members of the Symphonic Band and Orchestra have collberated to form a group called the March Municipal Band Senem Nicoya and get involved in an audition to participate in the San Jose festival.
“We are already preparing. We were invited to participate in festivals of Nandayure, Canas and Liberia,” said the director of the group, Josiph Hernandez.
For now, directors Josiph and Guevara are trying to buy the band uniforms, which cost up to $6000. The group will generate the money needed to cover expneses by selling tamales and other fundraising activities.
