Yoga House Offers Kirtan Concerts in Nosara

By Fritz Elmendorf

A concert and workshop by the musical duo Aykanna, which offers Hindu kirtan chanting strongly blended with soul and jazz, is being sponsored by The Yoga House Nov. 26 and 27.

Aykanna is singer-guitarist Pauline Sukhdev Drossart, whose soul and jazz background combines with Grammy nominated percussionist Akahdahmah's West African percussive influences and Afro-Cuban, New York City funk. Their self-described medicine music gift has been recognized by prominent yoga teachers, and they are in Nosara to support a retreat at Blue Spirit led by Tommy Rosen and Kia Miller prior to their appearances at Yoga House.

The Saturday concert is at 7 pm and tickets are $15 if purchased in advance at Yoga House, The Village or Organico MiniMarket, or $20 at the door.

The Yoga House is also sponsoring a concert Dec. 4 by Jai-Jagdeesh, another prominent Kirtan singer who is presenting a kundalini yoga and meditation retreat at Blue Spirit with Karuna Livpreet Kaur. Advance tickets are $15 and $20 at the door.

The Yoga House is located behind Café de Paris.

Yoga Community Gathers to Celebrate 11-11-11

11-11-11. Is it just an interesting date on the calendar or an auspicious day signaling the dawning of a new age? I suppose that’s a matter of belief, but with ancient prophecies and the ending of the Mayan calendar on December 21, 2012, many people believe the earth and its people are headed for a major change.
